The Museo Italo Americano involves the adaptive reuse and sustainable design of an historic multi-story distillery and warehouse at 940 Battery Street to create the museum’s new home, featuring galleries, offices, and public gathering spaces. The project includes selective demolition, seismic and structural upgrades to support a new penthouse level, and full modernization of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, removing natural gas service from the building, and life safety systems, all while preserving the building’s concrete shell and heavy timber structure. New elevator service, a grand stair, restored windows and doors, façade enhancements, and upgraded entries and terraces complete the transformation, delivered in close coordination with historic preservation requirements.
