Superintendent

Superintendents are responsible for the overall safety of the project jobsite and must supervise the daily activity and operations on a construction jobsite. This position will work collaboratively with the Project Manager and focuses on supervising subcontractors, developing schedules for multiple trades, and planning the sequencing of work per the contracts and budgets. The Superintendent, with the Project Manager, is responsible for the satisfactory outcome of the project.

Essential Functions

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for developing the Master Schedule along with the Project Manager and the Precog department as required and issuing shorter durations of a 3 week look ahead schedule.

  • Creates, facilitates, and manages coordination of sequence of work between all contracted subcontractors working on the project following the critical path of the master schedule.

  • Verifies the quality of work performed by the subcontractors is per the scope and contract.

  • Works with the Project Engineer to develop a timely submittal schedule and to process timely RFI’s completion.

  • Manages the subcontractors to identify and resolve conflicts in a timely manner.

  • Maintains a safe and organized worksite with project team and subcontractors.

  • Holds daily project update meetings to safeguard all workers are properly oriented to the project, and are trained, have the required tools and PPE to perform their specific scope of work.

  • Confirm correct signage and notices have been posted.

  • Coordinates with company the Director Safety and Field Operations Team to develop and maintain jobsite specific safety plan.

  • Responsible for all aspects of jobsite safety including daily safety checks and weekly safety meetings.

  • Work with Project Manager to develop a project specific crisis management plan with a site layout plan for the public and worker safety protection.

  • Works with PM to process specific permits in a timely manner required to execute the work; work with Safety Manager to pull required OSHA permits.

  • Participates in OAC meetings with Project Manager.

  • Coordinates and collaborates with Project Manager to ensure all phases of construction are completed on time and according to the budget.

  • Uses good judgement to review complex construction issues utilizing all resources to obtain a conclusive review for resolution and execution.

  • Coordinate staffing needs with the VP of Construction Operations.

  • Source, screen and hire field labor in conjunction with the Director of Safety and Field Operations and/or VP of Construction Operations.

  • Supervise work activities of field laborers.

  • Swiftly resolve jobsite personnel problems, with the coordination of the Project Manager and consulting with the VP of Human Resources.

  • Stay informed with OSHA safety and health regulations affecting the operations of the project jobsite.

  • Ensures workers follow safety regulations and work practices including using personal protective equipment.

  • Become familiar with safety and health hazards to which workers are exposed, know how to recognize them and the potential effects of these hazards.

  • Identify unsafe and unhealthful conditions; take appropriate corrective action per corporate guidelines.

  • Verify that vendor purchase orders are on site and that procured material is properly accounted for, inventoried, and secured.

  • Responsible for accurate and timely completion of all company required paperwork such as daily reports, daily jobsite inspections, incident reports, RFI's and safety checklists.

  • Work with the PM and PE to develop and maintain a project specific quality control program.

  • Inspect work regularly and ensure that the work that is required is being performed in a timely manner.

  • Responsible for ensuring that the project has the proper equipment to execute the work in a cost-effective manner.

  • Identify the major equipment needs for the project; work with the Precon department and PM to develop a budget and buy out for the equipment.

  • Work with the PE to develop and maintain an equipment control program – Rental Log.

  • Work with suppliers to ensure safe and properly maintained equipment is delivered, and proper logs and maintenance are maintained on-site.

Supervisory Responsibility

  • This position has supervisory responsibility direct and indirect over Assistant Superintendents, Project Engineers, Interns, Laborers, and other staff assigned to the project.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • This position regularly requires long hours and must be willing to work weekends and evenings as driven by the project schedule.

  • Can expect to work outdoors in all kinds of weather and under risky conditions.

  • Physical requirements - Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the construction site.

  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times.

Travel

  • Travel is primarily local during the business day.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction Management; or

  • Equivalent to 5 -10 years of construction field experience

  • Computer literate. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge to an advanced aptitude of MS Office Suite, (Outlook, Project, Excel, and Word)

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • OSHA-30
