Singular Builders is delighted to announce the completed renovation of San Francisco’s Huntington Hotel, a project Singular Builders executed in partnership with Build Group. Perched atop Nob Hill, the iconic hotel has been a symbol of the city’s thriving social scene since it opened as a hotel, restaurant, and spa in 1924. With the Huntington’s spring 2026 reopening, San Francisco celebrates this emblem of the city’s own rebirth.
Located on California Street, the Huntington Hotel has been a favorite of the city’s Nob Hill luminaries since its Jazz Age debut. For nearly a century, neighbors and visitors alike enjoyed relaxing at the hotel’s Nob Hill Spa and dining at The Big Four Restaurant, named for the era’s four railroad barons. But the lights went out in March 2020 when Covid suddenly shuttered the hotel. Years later, when the former owners eventually prepared the building for sale, they discovered a ghostly tableau: music playing in the halls, luggage abandoned in the rooms, and plates of food left to molder on the tables.
In the hotel, investor Greg Flynn (Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Flynn Group and Flynn Properties) saw an opportunity for a renaissance. When Flynn and Highgate partnered to set the course for the Huntington’s rebirth, they turned to Singular Builders. The Singular team’s storied expertise in historic renovation made us a natural choice for the 100-year-old, 143-room hotel, spa, fitness center, bar, and restaurant renovation.
Creative solutions are our signature approach: Singular Builders teamed up with Build Group to put together a fully integrated team, with partnership at every level of project execution and management. Build Group brought the balance sheet that would secure approvals from banks, as well as their in-house drywall and flooring companies. Singular brought our expertise in historic restorations to the project, experience that carried the team through the inevitable surprises that come up at every stage of renovation in a 100-year-old building.
BAR Architects & Interiors proudly served as Architect of Record for the comprehensive renovation, partnering with renowned interior designer Ken Fulk Inc to thoughtfully restore the hotel’s historic identity while elevating it for today.
The result – from the spacious suites to the atmospheric Big Four Restaurant with its polished brass, billiard-table-felt acoustic tiling, and deep green leather banquettes – is stunning. The Nob Hill Spa is back, inviting everyone to relax and have a Bellini by the indoor pool.
San Francisco could not be more excited to welcome the return of its iconic Nob Hill hotel. At the March 2026 ribbon cutting, San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie declared: “This is another sign that San Francisco is on the rise.” Flynn mused that the Huntington “symbolizes San Francisco’s rebirth. It’s the perfect symbol because [the hotel is] coming back better than it ever was.”
Singular Builders is delighted to have been a part of the Huntington Hotel’s renovation. This project is one more expression of our commitment to construction that revitalizes buildings and the neighborhoods and people that surround them.
