Senior Estimator

Job Description

The Senior Construction Estimator plays a critical role in managing all aspects of project estimating, from conceptual budgets to detailed cost proposals. This position involves interpreting project plans and specifications, performing accurate quantity take-offs, coordinating subcontractor bidding, and preparing detailed written estimates. The Senior Estimator will lead preconstruction efforts for both competitive bids and negotiated projects, collaborating closely with owners, architects, designers, and subcontractors.

We’re seeking a seasoned professional with over ten years of experience estimating commercial construction projects and a proven ability to collaborate effectively with both internal teams and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and review construction, ranging from initial concept narratives to formal RFPs and complete drawing sets.
  • Manage and execute preconstruction processes for negotiated projects
  • Manage and execute competitive bids.
  • Develop precise and detailed estimates, RFP responses, and proposals.
  • Create comprehensive trade breakdowns and oversee subcontractor budgeting and bidding.
  • Liaise with architects and owners to address constructability concerns and ensure alignment with design intents during preconstruction.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Architecture or Civil Engineering.
  • A minimum of ten years of diversified estimating and construction experience.

Technical Skills:

  • High level of proficiency in ProEst, Bluebeam, Excel, and the MS Office Suite.
  • Skilled in transforming numbers into clear, actionable reports for diverse audiences.
  • Strong ability to read and analyze drawings and specifications.
  • Demonstrated adaptability in learning new software related to modeling, estimating, and scheduling.
  • Extensive experience preparing detailed estimates, with a solid understanding of costs and unit rates specific to the San Francisco Bay Area.
  • Knowledge of the San Francisco Bay Area subcontracting community.

Leadership And Communications Skills:

  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and manage teams effectively.
  • Skilled at setting clear goals, fostering collaboration, and maintaining team morale.
  • Strategic communication abilities, including clear and impactful messaging across various audience sizes.
  • Strong writing skills for professional documentation and correspondence.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Detail-oriented, with commitment to accuracy.
  • Strategic decision-making with sound judgment.
  • Advanced customer focus and ability to build relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.

Additional Information

Salary:

The salary range for this position is $170,000 – $210,000. Actual compensation is based on the overall skill level, experience and qualifications of the individual.
